Sixth class received a pleasant surprise on Monday 23rd January when their delivery of beautiful half zips arrived. The class designed the tops themselves and they are delighted how they turned out.
On Monday 19th December we welcomed a full to capacity church to our first Carol Service since 2019! The pupils were busy preparing and practicing so it was lovely to see everyone come out to support them. The Carol Service was a great success and thank you to our very generous Parents Association who provided hot and tasty refreshments for everybody afterwards in the Community Centre.
The boys and girls from fourth, fifth and sixth class competed in a Gaelic football lunchtime league during October, November and December. After five weeks of very competitive entertaining group games Carlow and Dublin eventually qualified for the B final with Kerry and Wexford making it through to the A final.
The B final was a thoroughly enjoyable game which ended a draw; it then had to be decided by penalty shootout where Carlow overcame Dublin.
The A final didn’t disappoint; the teachers and children who came to support were treated to an excellent display from both teams with Kerry narrowly overcoming a very strong Wexford team by one point.
Referee John O Rourke presented the medals and trophies; he complemented the children on the excellent skills, attitude and behaviour on display and commented that the future of Gaelic football in the Duffry looks very bright.
The children from 1st and 2nd class took part in the Junior Achievement Ireland Programme which ran over the past five weeks. The theme for the programme was ‘Our Community’. The programme was given by a parent in our school and BD employee Derek Doyle who volunteered to conduct the lessons over five weeks. We would like to thank Derek for giving his time and being so accommodating. This programme was something which the children really benefited from and enjoyed.
5th and 6th class got into the Halloween festivities with a trip to the FCJ Bunclody for a performance of their school musical “The Addams Family”. There we joined 4 other local schools and took our seats for an enthralling show full of drama, singing and lots of stamping feet! Well done and thank you to the FCJ for a great show and it was very exciting to catch up with two former Caim NS pupils, both involved in the set design!
