Caim National School has an excellent record in both boys and girls Rackard League Competitions. Together with Ballindaggin and Kiltealy National Schools we compete every year in the Hurling/Camogie and Gaelic Football competitions.
In 2024 so far our boys team have won their District Roinn C Championship and our girls are now in their Roinn A Final! Well done everyone!
In 2022 we had teams in the girls and boys Gaelic and Hurling/Camogie Competitions with children from Caim represented on all teams. Our Gaelic Football Girls’ Team reached the Roinn A Final where they were defeated by Ferns by the narrowest of margins. The Camogie girls took it one step further when they became COUNTY CHAMPIONS with a thrilling win over Piercestown in the Roinn A Final in Patrick’s Park, Enniscorthy in June 2022!
Below is a report from Girls Rackard League County Final 2019.
Girls Rackard League County Final 2019
On Tuesday the 3rd of December the Rackard League girls played in Roinn C final against Ballymurn/Crossabeg in St. Patrick’s Park.
Before the match we were in a dressing room so excited and nervous. Mr. Kavanagh and Ms Green gave us a good prep talk and handed us our jerseys. Thirteen players played on the field. When we all got our jerseys on we ran out onto the field and got a group photo. After we took the photo we started our warm up, we did stretches and kicked the ball around.
When the first whistle went we were ready to win. After ten minutes it was getting quite tense, you could really feel that both teams wanted to win. After half time we were winning by three points. The score was 1 – 5 1-2.
At half time Mr. Kavanagh said we were playing really well but he knows we can play better. He also said if we play like a team we will win. Also he gave us more advice.
When the ref threw up the ball Kaylee caught it and kicked it to Maura. Maura kicked it to Aoife Waters and she scored a goal. After the goal the ball was 30% on our side and 70% on the opposition side. It was getting really rough, and the supporters were shouting and screaming. When the ref. blew the final whistle we ran into a big huddle and were so happy with ourselves. The score was 4-8 1-4.
After the match Kaylee said her speech and we lifted the cup and took a lot of pictures with our friends and family. After the pictures we went into the dressing room, got dresses and ate sweets and chocolate. Then the team went to the Holy Grail in Ballindaggin and got food and it was lovely. We were laughing and having a good time.
Overall the experience of playing football for Rackard League girls, wining all of our matches and playing against very good teams has been amazing.
